“Paradise” is a cliché perhaps, but one that comes to life on the Discovery Coast of Queensland – a 60 kilometres stretch of pristine coastline from the Bundaberg region to the southern most tip of the Great Barrier Reef. There are two major settlements on the coast – 1770 and Agnes Water, home to ‘the Discovery’. 1770 is the recognised birthplace of Queensland named after James Cook and the crew from the Endeavour landed to make repairs on 24 May 1770. The area is known for its fishing (mud crabs are on the menu), diving, surfing, national parks, spectacular views and wonderful sunsets.
